  • About Us

    In its simplest form, the Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association is a Maryland based group of boat owners who share in their love for the Chesapeake Bay waterways.  The CBPBA holds many activities and enjoyable events for the whole family, some of which to promote worthy causes. Our rapidly growing membership includes powerboat owners with small runabouts to large yachts. As with any other group of people and the benefits you'll realize, the old adage "it's not what you know, it's who you know" couldn't be more true. You'll meet and network with fellow power boat owners on a regular basis.

    Bay Swim's Y2K WinnerBay Swim CheckThe CBPBA participates in several high-visibility events throughout the year.  This includes the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim to benefit the Maryland Chapter of the March of Dimes.  CBPBA members provide volunteer logistical and safety support to further extend the resources of participating law enforcement agencies and the charitable organizations themselves. You've probably seen the local news coverage on TV with reporters joining our members on the water, keeping boat traffic away from swimmers, assisting swimmers who are suffering from fatigue and assisting in the overall management effort of this event.;

    APBA OffshoreChesapeake Challenge RacesOne of our most popular events has been the Offshore Power Boat Challenge, offshore races held right here on the bay and most recently at the Hyatt Regency Resort and Marina in Cambridge, Maryland.  The CBPBA works with various race organizations, who holds races all over the United States during the year. The Chesapeake Challenge draws some of the nations top racing teams in all categories from factory stock to unlimited. Once again, you may have seen this highly publicized event on local TV.  CBPBA volunteers provide logistics and safety support by working alongside the Offshore Race Committe and local law enforcement agencies.

    There are many organizations people focused on issues and the health of our beloved Chesapeake Bay. CBPBA officers and members work closely with the DNR, manufacturers, and other boating industry reps to help collect scientific data on noise, speed, navigational obstructions and other pertinent info to help fight some of the unreasonable restrictions which have been proposed against power boaters. We are also often asked to provide expert testimony on power boat issues at regulatory hearings and workshops.

    Boat/USMembers receive a large membership decal for their boat or car, a membership card which entitles you to special discounts on marine equipment, supplies, and high performance parts. We frequently negotiate special member deals on all sorts of things. including a special membership discount to Boat US.  You will also receive a subscription to the monthly newsletter "CRUISE NEWS" to help keep you informed on the latest CBPBA news, boating information and what's happening on the legislative front. Contained within the monthly Cruise News, we offer a "FREE" classified ad service to all members. Here's an excellent opportunity to sell a marine related product or request a special item you need to purchase.

    On the lighter side, your CBPBA membership includes a year round schedule of enjoyable activities for the entire family like Poker Runs, crab feasts, brunches, a Christmas Party, etc. General Membership meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Our meetings, which start at 7:30 pm, are a great way of participating in the CBPBA, meeting your fellow members and being brought up on boating activities and pending legislation. After the meeting you can converse with other members who may be able to help you solve a particular boat problem.

    Over 80% of all boats registered on the Bay are powerboats! Until 1986 when the CBPBA was founded, there was no organized group dedicated solely to representing the needs of power boaters. Join with other local powerboaters interested in having fun, protecting their rights and promoting safe & responsible boating on our Bay waters.
